Profile

Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT), in particular as the originator of the concept of Technology Transfer Centres (TTCs), counts among the innovative pioneers of the Bavarian higher education landscape. With its 17 own technology campuses, DIT has made a strong contribution to the regionalisation of research and will in future make even greater use of this in order to further advance the symbiosis of research, transfer and entrepreneurship in the region. The university’s graduates are intended not only to be sought-after young professionals in industry, but also to play a sustainable role in shaping it as founders.

The four interdisciplinary research priorities “Digital Technologies”, “Sustainable Production & Energy Technologies”, “Smart Materials”, and “Quality of Life & Healthcare” define the scientific profile of the university. With NITRO (i.e. Sustainable Intelligent Technologies for a Resource-Optimised Production), DigiTech (Digital Technologies and their application) and PRISMA Health (Promoting Research and Innovation for Sustainable Multidisciplinary Approaches in Health), DIT has three doctoral research centres.

The eight faculties and the Centre for Academic Further Education at DIT offer around 100 different bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in the disciplines of economics, engineering, computer science, applied natural sciences and health sciences. The European Campus Rottal-Inn (ECRI) is a study location in the Lower Bavarian town of Pfarrkirchen, focusing on internationally oriented bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes in the fields of health sciences and technology. At the Cham campus, almost 1,000 young people from all over the world are currently studying. The bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes there are oriented towards the fields of mechatronics and artificial intelligence.

As a university town, Deggendorf offers many advantages. With the so-called “university mile”, DIT is represented in the city centre with its faculties and laboratories. The distances between campus, city area and student residences are short and can be covered on foot. Moderate housing and living costs are an advantage for many students. The nearby beach of the Danube, the river Danube itself and the Bavarian Forest offer opportunities for many leisure activities. A wide range of events is also offered, including music festivals, concerts, theatre and a vibrant club life. In university sports, competitive athletes can take part in competitions in many disciplines, for example in the Bavarian and German University Championships.
